Oh yeah, and just so you know, I didn't take many pictures this past week and a lot of the ones I did take have booze in them so I didn't put them on facebook because I don't think that is a smart thing to do and I think those pictures are kinda silly. Just wanted to let you know... but I will take more pictures, so no worries! Although... I doubt you all were worried...

School!

So this is my post about school. I didn't write about Rome yet. I will probably (maybe) add that later.
I love Canterbury. I am already depressed that I have to go home. Infact, I am trying to find out if I can graduate on time and stay here next semester. No joke. This is the most fantastic place ever. In a week I feel more at home here then I did in a year at Kansas.
It is bizarre how being abroad can change who you are. I have this new found confidence here. I feel skinnier and better looking and funnier and more outgoing, and why? Because I left the country? It is no help to my recently inflated ego that getting men to show interest in you here is super easy! I have already met like 5 guys who my friends think are in to me. Seriously... when did coming abroad make you more appealing? I would say it is because I am American, but two of those guys are American as well. Weird.
I have had quite a lot of alcohol here (to say the least). No puking or anything, just a lot of giddiness and such. It's really fun to be able to buy your own alcohol (but more fun when boys buy it for you)!!
I have been haning out with three American girls a lot and then a lot of random people outside of them. Including, the guy I like, Alex. Super cute, film major, seriously funny, intelligent, British, and has really taken a liking to me as well. Ten points for me! He lives 2 floors below me so we hang out just about everyday. Swoon.
Another guy is Mike. He has a more romantic story I suppose, but I still like Alex more. Mike is the guy I "hooked up" with before I met Alex. Hooked up means to make out over here, just so you know! Ok, so the story about Mike... Well I met Mike through my friend Hannah who went to KU last year when she was studying abroad. He recongnized me and asked if I was at the KBar on Sunday. I told him I was and asked him why he remembered me and he said it was because he thought I was pretty. Point one for Mike. After that I went out to the dance floor with my friends (it was naughty school girl night) and a little while later he came out and found us. He took my hands and started doing crazy dancing with me like the jitterbug and the salsa. His hands were all over me which was a little awkward but a little fun too... Yeah so we talked while we danced and I found out that he graduated from Kent last May, now has a job that pays in the triple digits (according to his friend, he didnt tell me that), that his father is the CEO of an airline so he has been all over the world and has 3 houses in the US, and that he is leaving for India in two weeks for four months for work. He asked me if I wanted to go on a date with him and I said yes and then I went off to find my friends because they vanished while this happend, but not before we made out a little.
Unfortunatly, the date hasnt happend because he wanted to go on Friday and I went dancing with Alex that night.
Other then meeting people and partying, my three American friends, Will, Jerry, and Alex and I had a dinner party that was a lot of fun. We also made cookies and stayed in one night watching movies and ordering take out. We also walk into town every single day and get coffee and talk and stuff. Life here is hard to top...
There are some more illicit things that may have occured that you will have to ask me about personally. I am not going to write them down on here incase I ever choose to run for public office.
Love you and miss you all tons and tons!!!!

The Past Three Weeks in a Nutshell

Milan
So Milan was better then I thought. The people were not quite as posh and snobby as everyone told me they would be, which was nice. There were a lot of cute clothing shops that were cheap and I had my first pizza in Italy at the cute little pizzeria. I took a very touristy bus tour so I got to see just about everything "important." I also spoke to people in Italian for the first time! Yay!

Cinque Terre
I think Cinque Terre was my favorite place that I went. The first night I was there the small town I was staying in had a dance. I met some Americans that were studying abroad in Architecture and had come here for a weekend and we all went ot a bar and then to the dance. At first everyone was a little bit hesitant to join in with the dancing because the Italians were kinda doing their own thing. But then this old man came up and grabbed my arms and we started dancing! After that everyone else joined in. This cute Italian kept asking me to dance. About halfway through the night they pulled out Limbo! I lost of course but it was a ton of fun. I met these two Italian girls as well. I really liked them even though we couldnt communicate very well. The night ended with everyone jumping up and down on the dance floor. Ages 3 to 80 were there jumping. It was fantastic. Hands down the best night of the month that I traveled.
I did a hike in Cinque Terre across all 5 towns. I met some Australian girls hiking and walked with them. In between towns we would rest and lay on the beach. The towns were all goregeous and so quaint. I felt like I saw more real Italians here then anywhere else.
My last day there I wanted to go kyhaking but the water was too rough so I just sat down and draw. Someone walking by offered to buy my drawing! They asked me in Italian though and so I was confused and said no. As they were walking away I figured it out but it was too late. I still found it flattering... I would have sold that ugly thing for a euro!

Venice
I looooved Venice. I really want to go back some day with a lover. Oooo-la-la. I met James in Venice (a cute Australian guy) and we jung out my first day there. The second day I met up with some friends that I met in my hostel in Cinque Terre and we all took a gondola together! It was sooo much fun. I thought it was worth the 17.50 each it ended up being.
I saw a glass factory as well. They made a glass pitcher and horse in about 3.5 seconds! They made it look so easy. I was impressed.
I also went to a movie premiere in Venice! I saw this one girl talking on TV and I saw a TV in a shop showing her as she was talking! It must have bene live. I met this nice English woman who married an Italian and was out with her friends. She and I talked while we waited for the actors and actresses to come out. I saw the premiere for Nightwatching. I saw Mike Freeman (I think that is his name). He is in Love Actually and Hitch Hickers Guide to the Gallexy. They also had this huge dance floor and so I went there and met some other people traveling (two English boys from London who invited me out there to visit while I stay here)and danced. Venice was awesome.

Florence
Florence was so artsy. I met two people from UNT! One of them lived in North Richland Hills and the other lived in Grapevine! Small world. I went to a mexican resturant during happy hour and drank some wonderful pina coladas and talked (rather poorly) to some brazilians in broken Spanish and Italian. They told me where they worked (an ice cream shop) and wanted me to come there the next day so they could give me free gelato but I was leaving the next day for Sorrento. What a shame!
In Florence I got to see David and Botticelli#s Birth of Venus and La Primavera, plus about 100 other works that just about change your life when you look at them. I was in a gorrible mood when I went into the Uffizi (a museum that rivals the Lourve), but after seeing all of the beautiful art there I was giddy. It was amazing. I made so many friends in Florence. I met this one American guy and his brother from Chicago. He was a language conservationist. I thought that was pretty cool. We drank some wine together and chatted basically alllll night. I could live in Florence. Easily.

Sorrento and Capri
I don't remember Sorrento as fondly as I should because my Hostel was about a mile up hill. I sat down with my pack on and I couldnt get up. I died getting there. It was awful. The actual hostel was really nice though. It was on a huge hill and it overlooked all of Sorrento and the ocean. If I were on my honeymoon this is where I would want to go. Infact, I think there were people on there honeymoon there. It was a nice place too, no dormatories or anything. I had a private room, which was bliss.
I didn't spend a whole lot of time in Sorrento because during the day I went to Capri to go on a boat trip. The water was soooo blue! Look on facebook! I think that was my favorite thing that I did all trip. They just took us around the whole Island and told us about the history and showed us the most important things... and that water. Sometime when I go to sleep at night I think about it.
When I was leaving Sorrento and waiting for a bus to come pick me up to take me to the train station a cute guy stopped infront of me on his scooter. "What is your name?" he asked twice, but I didn't tell him. As the bus was coming up behind him I pointed to it and he said " Don't go there. You come get on my scooter now," and he patted the back for me to get on! I thought that sort of thing only happend in movies! I thought it was so funny. I just went on the bus, of course, but I did day dream about having a movie like experience with him... and then about what horrible thing could have happend as well.

Pompei
Pompei was ok. I got honked by an old man who kept driving in circles and honking at me. I was really confused as to why.
There were a lot of abandoned dogs which made me sad. I bought some salami for lunches but I ended up giving it all to them. Some of them seemed too tired to eat. It was very depressing.
On a lighter note the ruins were lovely and I made more friends that I went out to dinner with.

So I am in Southern France now. I am currently in Nice, but I have been to Marseille and Monaco as well.

Marseille
Marseille was my first place to go alone. It wasn't bad aside from this creeper who followed me and just men in general. One man wanted me to stay the night, hinted at marriage, and told me he liked my eyes. It was weird being watched and smiled at and invited to dinner and things. I didnt like it. Instead of finding it flattering I felt more threatend then anything. Excluding the men I did like Marseille even though it looked like a once prosperous town that had gone sour. There was a lot of run down parts and graffiti. The churches there were soooo impressive though. There were a lot of beautiful things hidden in with all of the clutter. I also met this nice guy who was from England. He had cycled all the way down to Marseille from northern France. I thought that was pretty cool. One day he just went cycling and cycled 127 miles! I have met so many cool people from all over the world... it is amazing.

Monaco
Monaco was totally my favorite place so far. It was sooooo beautiful. I just walked around and lounged on the beach and talked to a few random people. It was fabulous. You can tell all the people there are loaded though. If I were loaded I would go there too. The whole Frennch Riviera is wonderful, but Monaco had been upkept a lot better then Nice or Marseille and they had beautful flowers and gardens everywhere to make it even more fantastic.

Nice
Nice was probably only slightly behind Monaco in beautym but I disliked it a lot more because I was only really walking around the city for maybe 3 hours and I was lost. Then the one time I asked somebody for help this old man started lecturing me about how if I wanted help I should learn French and that I shouldn't just expect him to speak english, Americans are so arrogant blah blah. I finally found my way home, but I was angry, hungry, and close to tears. I did get to pet a really cute dog though.

Back to Paris...
So there was something else I wanted to say about Paris but I forgot to. The first night I was in Paris I met this guy who was from Dallas who was in the same hostel room as me. It turned out he lived in Highland Park and knew Madison and Vance from KU. Small world, eh?

So tomorrow I head on to Milan where I am only spending one day. I plan to take a bus tour, see the last supper, and go to happy hour(you get free food when you buy drinks at happy hour in Milan). Then the next day I leave for Cinque Terre where I plan to spend 4 days hiking, laying in the beach, and meeting people. Woo!

So I always have other stuff I want to say but I can never remember it... I think I am going to go to the bar (there is one in my hostel) and try Spanish Sangria then go to bed. Bye bye friends!

Hi Friends!
Sorry it has been so long but I really dont have the time or money to update everyday. Most of the touristy things that I do and see you can see in my photos, so I am just going to touch on a few stories.

The Joke We Played on the Germans
So as you probably know I spent my first week with Tina who is German. When we were in Amsterdam we had a group of Germans living in our same room in our hostel. We didnt know if we could trust them or not to leqve our stuff with them and it not get stolen so we told them that we were both American. Immediately they started talkig about really awkward things that we knew they would not have said if they knew Tina could understand. It was an on going joke. Everytime we left the room Tina would translate what they said to me. Anyways one night they all got really really drunk so Tina would say things to them in German and they would freak out. Then she would tell them she told me something in english and that they were hearing things because she couldnt speak english. It was pretty mean of us, I admit, but they were so drunk that I doubt they remembered the next day.

The Rollerbladers
Every Friday night in Paris up to 20,000 rollerbladers rollerblade for 3 hours through Paris together escorted by the police. Tina and I went to see them and they had light up hats and portable boom boxes and would wave and shout when they saw bystanders. Some of them even had matching tshirts. Hardcore. It took about 15 minutes for all of them to pass and they were going really fast!! If you are ever in Paris on a Friday you should see it.

The Parisian Men (Boys)
One night Tina and I went out looking for the Bastille (which turned out to be right infront of us, we thought it was a building, it was really a monument) and we ran into these two guys, who then decided to follow us to Notre Dame. You can see pictures of them online. If Tina were not there I would have lost them immediately, and I kind of wish we had. They kept putting their arms around us and telling us that they were rich because they had 13,000 euros and that we must come back to Paris and visit them. They were just kind of half annoying and half charming until they told us to get off the train at the wrong stop which made us walk two miles and then they kep talking about giving us a present (which we werent sure what that is and luckily never found out). They finally left us once we pointed down a dark ally and said that was where our hostel was, but not before giving us each two wet sloppy kisses on each cheek. Bleg.

Count of Monte Cristo
Today I took a boat out to the prison that is in the Count of Monte Cristo. It was perhaps my favorite thing I hqve done so far on this trip.

Movie Extra
This is my last and favorite story and it just happend this afternoon. There was a large crowd of people heading up a street and I thought there must be something really good up there so I followed them. I couldnt see anything spectacular but I figured there would be something good soon. We were climbing these stairs and I realized that at the top there were two cameras. Then I was just confused until after I walked past them (I was the last one) and all of the people just stopped waiting for more instructions. I though perhaps they were filming a movie and I asked so,eone and they said yes! I didnt ask whick movie, which was dumb, but I may be in the background of some film. I would be able to spot pretty clearly because I was in the back and separated from everyone else. If only I had asked the name...

Bleg. Navigating through dutch on this computer is a slight challenge. So I am in Amsterdam! The deadly 38 hours of traveling wasn't as horrid as I would thought it would be and now I am pretty much caught up with sleep. Amsterdam is amazing! Everyone here is super friendly and they all speak english really well. Mostly Tina and I have just been walking around the city and taking pictures and meeting people and eating. Last night we went to the Red Light District which was really bizarre, but cool. All of the women were wearing next to nothing and stood in small individual boxes with neon lights shining on them. Sometimes they danced or did something sort of provocative, but sometimes they just sat there and talked on their cell phone. There were a lot of "naughty" shops and shows in ther area that were interesting to walk by, but I think I would probably freak out if I went in. Also last night Tina and I went to a "coffeeshop."I didn't smoke or eat anything except for a juice, but Tina had a hash muffin. That was interesting too. I'd never seen one before. I'm glad we went in there and to the RedLight District even if we didn't partake in anything like that just to see what it was like.
Today we did things slightly more innocent. We ate breakfast at our hostel and then went on a free walking tour for students that was three hours long. It was really good! I enjoyed learning about the history of Amsterdam and the Dutch people, who I learned are all about tolerance and money. We got some amazing Turkish food for lunch. Tongiht we're going to this art gallery, club, bar, coffeeshop (just coffee), live music venue place that was in my guidebook.
Tomorrow we're planning on going to the Rijksmuseum and the Hieniken (I don't know how to spell that) Brewery. Then we're leaving for Brussels where we are only staying for about 3 hours, then we're going on to Paris!
I want you guys to know what's going on with me, but I want to know what is going on with you too. Please e-mail me at ame2001a@hotmail.com to let me know what you're up to.
Miss you all!!!
